How to Get Certified

MAAP is the only organization in the state that offers reciprocal certification for prevention specialists, alcohol and drug counselors, clinical supervisors, and criminal justice addictions professionals.

Certification can be the most rewarding event in a counselor’s professional life.

To become certified you must complete an application packet with a portfolio of your education, work experience and supervision for submission to the Certification Examining Board. Upon approval, you will then be eligible to sit for the International Written Exam.

Once certified, you are automatically eligible for an International Certificate through IC&RC (International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium), of which MAAP is a proud member. IC&RC protects the public by establishing standards and facilitating reciprocity for the credentialing of prevention and addiction-related professionals.

MAAP certified professionals have reciprocity with many international certifying bodies. For a complete listing of member boards, visit IC&RC’s website.
