Certification Renewal Requirements
Certification may be renewed upon submission of a completed recertification application to the Certification Examining Board. The application must include the following:
- Documentation verifying completion of a minimum of 40 clock hours of continuing education or training obtained within the previous two-year certification period.
- Continuing education must relate to the domains of the credential held and demonstrate maintenance of professional competency and current practice standards.
- A signed Ethics Affirmation reconfirming the applicant’s commitment to the Ethical Standards of Certified Professionals.
General Renewal Conditions
- Current and Continuous MAAP Membership
Certification renewal is contingent upon active MAAP membership at the time of submission. - Adherence to Ethical Standards
The Certification Examining Board may refuse to act on a renewal application if there is evidence of noncompliance with MAAP’s Ethical Standards of Certified Professionals.
Recertification Denial & Appeals
Recertification may be denied by the Certification Examining Board, either independently or upon recommendation of the MAAP Board of Directors, when there is substantiated evidence of serious ethical violations.
Applicants denied recertification may request a hearing before the Certification Examining Board. A minimum of six (6) of the ten (10) Board members must be present for the hearing.
If the applicant is dissatisfied with the Board’s decision, they may appeal to a special appeals board consisting of five (5) members, including:
- The President of MAAP (or an appointed representative), and
- Four (4) additional MAAP members who are not members of the Certification Examining Board.
Lapsed Certification & Reinstatement
Certification is considered lapsed on the credential expiration date. There is no grace period.
Certificate holders are responsible for submitting renewal applications in a timely manner. To allow sufficient processing time, applicants are strongly encouraged to submit recertification materials at least 60 days prior to expiration.
For certifications lapsed more than four (4) years, applicants must:
- Submit a new certification application and portfolio
- Successfully complete the IC&RC International Written Examination corresponding to the credential sought
- Provide a letter verifying current work status, submitted by the supervisor with the application
Important: Late or incomplete submissions may result in additional fees and processing delays. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure all required documentation is submitted accurately and on time.
